What are King Shrimp?
King shrimp or Humpback shrimp are caught from a small artisanal trap fishery that occurs in Prince Rupert harbour. This fishery uses baited traps that have little impact on the seabed and sees virtually no unintended and discarded bycatch of other sea life. Our King shrimp have the heads removed and tails have been frozen at sea (FAS) in seawater filled tubs. King shrimp have been described as the finest tasting of the six species of shrimp harvested in the frigid waters of the North Pacific. The combination of the sweet and delicate taste and firm and crunchy texture, make Organic Ocean King Shrimp tails one of the best kept secrets in the shrimp market.
How do you prepare King Shrimp Tails
For best results, remove from tub, place in colander and bowl and thaw in the refrigerator overnight so water is allowed to drain. Our King shrimp tails may contain eggs in them so for information regarding this delicacy, check out the same info on our spot prawn.. King Shrimp are a bit small for the grill, but perfect for any recipe where a smaller shrimp is required like shrimp scampi. These shrimp come uncooked and shell-on, so you'll want to peel them before sautéing with some olive oil, butter, garlic and wine. They're small so they'll cook fast.
